Museum family ticketing, family services

Our Family Fortunes workshop on flexible family ticketing and family services in museums was full of discussion and debate. Did you attend? If so, add your ideas here and what you’re doing about them since the workshop. If you couldn’t manage to join us, still join in the debate. We look forward to hearing how you’re making it work for all families.

We take the easy option and say that children are free! No need for a family ticket and we find that adults (parents and grandparents) welcome this and are more likely to vist themselves.

I’m a visitor, not a museum professional so from my perspective I want to be greeted warmly by people who are interested in my visit. I want them to be really well trained so that I can feel confident that they are working out the best deal for me and my family. Arriving is often a stressful time when I’m trying to take in information AND deal with the demands of my family and friends for loos, cloakroom, refreshments etc. I might already be stressed if the journey/parking was tricky. Those first few minutes often set the atmosphere for the rest of the visit.
